We are Scott and Marta Dent, children of the 50’s who lived in many places but both washed up in Phoenix in the 1970’s and never left. We have been married now for 37 years and have two smart, compassionate, and beautiful daughters Deanna and Laura. We leave behind on this trip extended family in Arizona to cover the home front; thanks in advance to Patricia, Emmita, Jorge, Rudy and Liz and their sweet daughter Camille, Margarita and Joanne, Carolina, Ramona, Ruth and Rich, and more remote support from Mark and Ronnie in Florida, Marcella in Vermont, and Nicolette, Cory and Damon in Tucson.
Before all this Marta was (and will be again on our return) an engineer by training and a practitioner of Geographic Information Systems (GIS – aka map or spatially organized databases). Scott has spent 35 years in construction from shovel jockey to project superintendent to office puke doing the bidding, estimating, and purchasing.
Update: June, 2015
We have been on the road for over a year now carrying our possessions in 2 backpacks and calling hotels, B&B’s , rental apartments and hostels our home. Still in awe at nature’s beauty and at the accomplishments of men. Our first year travel anniversary found us in Paris, France. Happy and ready for the year to come.
Update: October, 2015
We have been keeping track of our expenses throughout our entire trip and since some people seemed interested in the numbers we will add a page with the actual expenses of our trip by country.
yeah! have a great
journey
Maybe when you return you won’t be looking for the same types of jobs you currently hold or you will want to do something else with your lives. Either way, after 2 yrs of travel your lives will be even more enriched than they already are. Have a wonderful wonderful worldwide experience.
The blog is a great idea. I’ll be watching and living vicariously through all your wonderful experiences. Love you both. Happy trails!

Marta and Scott,
you inspired me! Now I’m hoping to visit one tenth of what you set out to explore. Hope we can have lunch when you are back in the states.
Hi Amir. So glad to hear from you! Congratulations on the beginning of your new life. 🙂
Such a wonderful world and so little time to explore.https://scottandmartadent.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-form
Hi Marta!!!! I miss you! I hope you remember me.
Hi Desmond. How could I not remember you? I really appreciated your willingness to adopt GIS and also the positive attitude of everyone in the department towards the new technology. Do you keep in touch with everyone there? If yes, please give them my regards and thanks for making this world a better place with all the help you provide to the local community in Arizona.
Yes! I certainly keep in contact and I will relay the message. I want to do lunch when you return.
